“THE ART & SCIENCE OF PICKING THE RIGHT PEOPLE”
There is nothing more expensive than hiring the wrong person for the job!! Mistakes in hiring always make the manager’s job much more difficult. The wrong person is more difficult (if not impossible) to train. The wrong person never performs up to your expectations. The wrong person will not satisfy your customers. The wrong person takes up your time as you continually deal with problems. The wrong person never quite fits the job; and ultimately, you either have to accept this person’s poor performance, or go through the trauma of dismissal and finding someone else.
This 2-day workshop is designed to give you hands-on experience at developing tools to help you make the right decisions about job candidates. During the workshop you will:
1. Learn how employee selection relates to training, job performance, performance appraisal, compensation, and customer satisfaction.
2. Learn where to look for and how to attract the right people.
3. Learn about the history of legal issues involving employee selection.
4. Learn to understand the technical issues involved in employee selection like job analysis, reliability, validity, etc.
5. Learn how, when, and if you should use various measurement methods such as:
a. Ability and/or Aptitude Tests b. Personality Tests c. Integrity and Honesty Tests d. Task Simulations (such as those used in Assessment Centers) e. Structured evaluation of work experience f. Direct measurement of skills g. Hypothetical situation questions
6. Learn about various forms of interviewing and how to use interviews effectively.
7. Construct rating guides for evaluating candidates accurately and objectively.
8. Construct effective interview questions.
9. Participate in constructing a selection package.

“MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR PEOPLE”
Your most valuable resource is your people, and managers who develop their people reap a double reward. First, their people become more capable, more involved, and more motivated. Second, managers free up more time for true leadership activities by allowing their people to perform some of the tasks and make some of the decisions which formerly consumed their time. The key here is to make sure that both the manager and the employees are prepared for this transition of responsibility.
In our experience, there are four phases to effective employee involvement. Those phases are: (1) Assess current skill levels and employee readiness for additional responsibility, (2) Develop employee skills and confidence, (3) Begin handing off tasks while mentoring and coaching to ensure success, and (4) Delegate full responsibility and accountability for new duties.
This one-day workshop outlines the process for taking your workforce from “passive employees” to “empowered individuals” without risking the chaos caused by “task dumping”. During the workshop participants will:
1. Learn about the five stages of employee involvement and assess where they are now.
2. Understand how to choose the responsibilities to delegate by assessing the risks and advantages of handing off those tasks.
3. Be taught to assess their people’s ability to handle new responsibilities and to understand why employees may hesitate to take on new duties.
4. Understand that involvement should be an element in both employee development and succession planning which gives employees a stake in their own success.
5. Learn the necessity of breaking tasks into “bite-size” chunks to reduce stress in both managers and employees.
6. Develop strategies to monitor results so they can provide training and coaching.
7. Learn the importance of handing off responsibility only after mutual trust is achieved.
8. Understand the new roles for both employees and managers....literally, “What should we do differently?”

“MEETING MANAGEMENT & GROUP PROBLEM SOLVING”
People in organizations usually agree on at least two things. One is that there are far too many meetings. The other is that too little is accomplished in those meetings to justify the time spent. We can help organizations be more effective by showing managers how to reduce the number of staff hours spent in meetings, and by making meetings achieve real results.
THIS HALF-DAY COURSE IS CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT AND WILL BE AVAILABLE AS SOON AS WE HAVE A FEW MORE MEETINGS ABOUT THE TRAINING ..... JUST KIDDING!
PLEASE CHECK BACK ON THE AVAILABILITY OF THIS TRAINING. IT WILL ALSO BE OFFERED AS A PUBLIC TRAINING WORKSHOP SO YOU CAN SEND SOMEONE TO EVALUATE IT BEFORE SENDING YOUR WHOLE STAFF.
